Anti-wrinkle injections are the most in-demand non-surgical medical aesthetics treatment worldwide. They are also the most popular treatment we offer at Dr Bailey Medspa in Leeds.
Botox treatment delivers noticeable, natural-looking anti-ageing results and can be precisely tailored to each patient’s concerns.
There are several brands of botulinum toxin available. The best-known in the UK is Botox. Other well known brands include Azzalure and Bocouture.
Despite the availability of other brands, Botox continues to be the best known anti-wrinkle injection in the UK.
The following Google Trends chart shows how Botox has dominated public awareness and search interest since 2004.

At Dr Bailey Medspa, we use Botox as our preferred anti-wrinkle treatment.
Botox is manufactured by Allergan, the same global pharmaceutical company behind the Juvederm range of premium dermal fillers.
Dr Bailey has extensive experience with Allergan products and has trained aesthetic practitioners across the UK through her role as a trainer with Cosmetic Courses.
How do Anti-wrinkle Injections Work?
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles. It works by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle movement.
When the targeted muscles become less active, expression lines soften and the skin appears smoother.
The “Three Areas”
When people refer to “the three areas,” they mean the most commonly treated zones for anti-wrinkle injections:

- Forehead lines
- Glabellar (aka eleven lines – or the lines between the eyebrows)
- Crow’s feet (lines around the outside creases of the eyes)
These are popular choices, but they are not the only areas that can be treated.
What to Expect at Your Anti-wrinkle Appointment
Anti-wrinkle treatments can only be performed following a full medical consultation.
Because Botox is a prescription-only medicine, your practitioner must assess your suitability, review your medical history and discuss your treatment goals.

This safeguards your health and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate.
The consultation
During your consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and understand the results you can realistically expect. If treatment is right for you, we will take a series of baseline photographs before cleansing the skin thoroughly.
The procedure
The procedure involves a series of small, precise injections tailored to your facial anatomy and concerns. Treatment itself is quick, and the full appointment usually lasts around 30 minutes.
When Will I See Results?
Results are not immediate. Most patients begin to notice softening of lines within a few days, with full results appearing at around two weeks.

After this point, lines and wrinkles look significantly smoother and your expressions become less pronounced.
A well-performed treatment will not completely freeze your face. The goal is for you to be able to express yourself naturally, just with fewer creases.
The 2 Week Review
We offer a complimentary review appointment after two weeks. Not all patients need or want this, but if you do attend we will assess your results and make small tweaks if clinically appropriate.
How Long Do Results Last?
Most patients enjoy results for around three months, although longevity varies depending on metabolism, lifestyle and muscle strength.
Healthy habits like hydration, good nutrition and high-quality skincare can support longer-lasting outcomes.
Some patients return every three months, while others prefer a four to six month interval depending on personal preference and how their results settle.
Preventative Anti-ageing
Botox, like dermal fillers are most effective as a preventative treatment.
Starting your anti-wrinkle treatments before lines become deeply ingrained is the best way to get long-term benefits. It allows patients to maintain a smoother and fresher appearance as they age.

Patients with deeper lines can still see good improvements with anti-wrinkle injections, although very established wrinkles may not disappear completely.
Other Treatment Areas for Botox
Beyond the three classic areas, anti-wrinkle injections can be used both cosmetically and medically.
Cosmetic uses
- Lip flip
- Cobblestone chin
- Facial slimming (masseter reduction)
- Gummy smile treatment
- Bunny lines
- Brow lift
- Nefertiti neck lift
- Lifting the corners of the mouth
Medical uses
- Bruxism (jaw clenching)
- Migraines
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Is There Anything to Avoid Before Treatment?
You don’t need to do anything special before your anti-wrinkle treatment appointment.
Some patients choose to avoid alcohol for 24 hours to minimise the chance of bruising, although this is optional.
Aftercare Advice
For 24 hours after treatment, avoid:
- Vigorous exercise
- Saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga
- Tanning beds
- Alcohol
These steps help reduce the risk of bruising and ensure the product settles correctly.
The Difference Between Medical Aesthetics Providers & Beauticians
The UK aesthetics industry is currently unregulated, which means non-medical injectors, such as beauticians, can legally offer treatments like Botox.
This carries risk, particularly because anti-wrinkle injections are prescription-only medicines that require detailed anatomical knowledge and an ability to manage complications safely.
Choosing a medically qualified practitioner ensures you are treated by someone who understands facial anatomy, pharmacology, patient safety and emergency protocols.
As a dentist, Dr Bailey brings years of clinical training, expertise and a duty of care towards every patient.
Dr Bailey also undertakes ongoing professional development and has completed her Level 7 Certificate, which is the highest level of aesthetics qualification and ensures her practice remains aligned with the latest clinical and safety standards.
