How Much Lip Filler
Will I Need?

The amount of lip filler you need will depend on the results you wish to achieve. Patients who are new to lip fillers sometimes opt for a smaller amount to start with, and then top-up the treatment when it has settled, if they decide they would like more.

We have extensive experience in delivering lip filler injections so we can talk you through all the options at your consultation and advise you on the best amount of lip filler for your specific needs.

If you have had lip fillers before and you would like a top-up we can evaluate how much you will need based on when your last treatment was, and how your lips look now.

Lip Fillers for Thin Lips

For patients who have naturally thin lips, dermal fillers can subtly enhance the lips, making them look fuller, while maintaining their proportion to the rest of the face.

Lip Fillers for More Volume

We offer lip fillers for patients who would like more volume if they want to enhance their lips and make them look fuller. It is important for us to deliver natural-looking results so we never overfill lips, as this can lead to the filler spreading outside the lines of the vermillion border, giving a ‘duck lip’ appearance.

Lip Fillers to Add Balance

The ideal proportion for lips is that the lower lip is around 1.6 times the size of the upper lip.

This follows the golden ratio which is a mathematical equation that is found in nature, art and aesthetics. At Dr Bailey Medspa we use the golden ratio as a guideline to create lips that are balanced and look proportionate.

By balancing the lips with filler we can enhance the symmetry of the lips while achieving aesthetically pleasing results.

Lip Fillers for Ageing Lips

The skin on our lips is susceptible to the ageing process in the same way as the rest of our skin. As we age we may notice that the lips become dryer, more puckered and we may experience more lines, on the body of the lips as well as around the lips, (also known as smokers lines).

Lip fillers can be used to treat ageing lips leaving them feeling softer and looking rejuvenated. We can also treat patients who want an anti-ageing lip treatment without the noticeable volume associated with lip fillers.

Lip Fillers for Hydration

Lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in our bodies.

Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules, so when it is injected it makes the skin look more hydrated.

Improving the hydration levels in the lips is a great way of reducing the appearance of dry, ageing lips, making them look more supple, plumper and dewy.

FAQ

Many patients are concerned that lip filler treatment will hurt. At Dr Bailey Medspa we apply a topical numbing cream before we inject the lips. We give the cream plenty of time to work and in addition to this we use lip filler products that have lidocaine in their ingredients. This helps to make the lip filler treatment process more comfortable for patients.

There are different variables that determine how long your lip filler will last. The hyaluronic acid in the filler will break down over time and this can be impacted by the type of filler used and the patient’s metabolism. At Dr Bailey Medspa we only use high quality Juvederm fillers. They typically last from between 6 – 12 months before patients come back for a top-up treatment.

The cost of lip fillers can vary widely between different practitioners. As a rule of thumb medical aesthetics clinics like Dr Bailey Medspa will charge more for fillers than practitioners who are not medically qualified.

The price reflects the extensive experience that we have in administering medical aesthetic procedures, our training, insurance and adherence to the latest medical safety standards.

Your lip filler appointment at Dr Bailey Medspa will take approximately 30 minutes. This allows us to check your medical history, discuss your treatment, take photos and fully numb the area before administering the filler.

Patients will experience some swelling after lip fillers, and this is to be expected as there will be some trauma to the area from the needle or cannula. Straight after your treatment your lips will look bigger due to the swelling. If this is the case, don’t panic! The swelling will go down over time.

The swelling will gradually subside and soften and you will see this as soon as 24-48 hours after treatment. We ask that patients leave a full 2 weeks for the filler to fully settle. After 2 weeks patients can have a top-up treatment if required.

It is best to avoid alcohol both before and after lip filler treatment. Alcohol thins the blood and this can lead to bruising when you have lip filler treatment. To minimise the risk of bruising try to avoid alcohol 24 hours before your appointment and 24 hours after your appointment.

There is no downtime required after lip injections, however there are some aftercare guidelines that should be adhered to. These include not taking part in excessive exercise and avoiding heat such as steam rooms and saunas for 48 hours after the treatment.

Full aftercare instructions are given to all patients who visit Dr Bailey Medspa for an appointment.
